Building on a Legacy

Despite the combined efforts of Don Luis and other organizations, Mexican government statistics show that in 2020, 32.28% of the population in Los Cabos and Baja California Sur was living in poverty, while 43% lived in vulnerable conditions with limited access to education, healthcare, and job opportunities. Less than half of the residents in the region have completed middle school.

The local community of Los Cabos continues to face numerous challenges. In recent years, the area has experienced several natural disasters, including devastating hurricanes. These events significantly impact Baja California Sur, where many homes are not built to withstand such forces of nature.

Additional difficulties stem from the fact that many parents must travel long distances to get to work and often do not return home until late in the day. Meanwhile, schools typically dismiss children at 2:00 p.m., leaving many unsupervised unless their parents can afford after-school programs. The need for support is significant, and the Solmar Foundation actively assists organizations that offer educational and enrichment programs for these children.

To better serve the local community, the Solmar Foundation has built strategic partnerships with public institutions and nonprofit organizations that provide essential services. Through these collaborations, community members gain access to financial aid, volunteer support, and valuable guidance. By working closely with trusted partners, the Solmar Foundation ensures that resources reach the areas and people who need them most.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

On September 25th, 2015, world leaders adopted a series of global goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal includes specific targets to be achieved.

To meet these goals, everyone must do their part: governments, the private sector, civil society, and individuals like you.

The Solmar Foundation actively supports the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

1 No Poverty

Eradicating extreme poverty for all people everywhere by 2030 is a pivotal goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

2 Zero Hunger

Goal 2 is about creating a world free of hunger by 2030.

3 Good Health and Well-being

Great strides have been made in improving people’s health in recent years.

4 Quality Education

Progress towards quality education was already slower than required before the pandemic, but COVID-19 has had devastating impacts on education, causing learning losses in four out of five countries.

5 Gender Equality

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world.

8 Decent Work and Economic Growth

Goal 8 is about promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work for all. Multiple crises are placing the global economy under serious threat. Global real GDP per capita growth is forecast to slow down in 2023.

10 Reduced Inequalities

Inequality threatens long-term social and economic development, harms poverty reduction, and destroys people’s sense of fulfillment and self-worth. The incomes of the poorest 40% of the population had been growing faster than the national average in most countries.

16 Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

Goal 16 is about promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, providing access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. People everywhere should be free of fear from all forms of violence and feel safe as they go about their lives

17 Partnerships for the Goals

Goal 17 is about revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda is universal and calls for action by all countries—developed and developing—to ensure no one is left behind. It requires partnerships between governments, the private sector
