Solmar Foundation in Los Cabos: Helping hands in action

by Dinorah de Haro

February has been a month full of satisfactions and loving actions for Solmar Foundation in Los Cabos, we want to share with those who make it possible: You.

This month also represents the cornerstone of a story that started 47 years ago: The opening of the first resort of Solmar Hotels & Resorts: Solmar Resort.

So please join us on this recap of dear moments collected during February:

Feb 1 | Kid’s Friends!

Thanks to the initiative of Amigos de los Niños, Dr. Greg Psaltis leads a clinic to take care of children in special needs and from foster homes. Over the last 5 years they have provided care to almost 2,000 children with a value of nearly $1,000,000 dollars.

Feb 2 | Valentine’s preparations!

Our friends from Casa Rame, an association devoted to giving kids with disabilities, the opportunity to hold independent lives, sold all the gifts crafted by the kids to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day: from artisanal soaps and lollipops, to bracelets and notebooks. Congratulations!

Feb 4 | Little details count!

After a pleasant stay at Solmar, many members come to me to donate unused personal hygiene essentials. We then put together assorted kits and deliver them to the communities we support. Every little action counts to bring help to those who need it most!

.

Feb 8 | Love gifts with a cause!

Red Autismo, a civil association which strives to give help with children with autism in Los Cabos, worked on some cute gifts to sell for Valentine’s Day, and we were happy to support their efforts spreading the word to help them sell all their creations!

.

Feb 9 | Brand New Smiles!

We had the honor to be part of the infinite love brought by Smiles International to the children with cleft lip and palate. The volunteering medical team —to whom we had the pleasure to host at our resorts— came from many parts of the world to undertake the surgeries.

Now these little ones have a brighter smile!

.

Feb 12 | With all our heart!

Corazón de Niño, a noble organization we have the fortune to support, held the 2nd Congress for parents with congenital heart disease children in order to respond to all the questions and prompt detection of this disease.

.

Feb 15 | I see you!

Doctors Schoenleber, from the Lions Club in Missouri, brought more than 150 prescription glasses for the elderly in vulnerable conditions from Hearts for Cabo. It was such a gift for us to witness how these sweet people were able to read again!

Thank you very much for your kindness!

.

Feb 17 | Plastic for wellness

Every resort that takes part of Solmar Hotels & Resorts have set specific containers to collect as many plastic soda caps as possible to donate them to the recycling bank, Banco de Tapitas de Cabo San Lucas, in order to help children with cancer. You wouldn’t believe the amount collected! Help is on its way!

.

Feb 19 | Ready for school!

Online education is a reality for many children around the world, and yet, some don’t have the resources to connect from home. That is why the Juntos por la Educación Cabeña movement (Together for Los Cabos Education) hasn’t stopped helping associations volunteering to bring face-to-face education to those who need it most. And dear Paty Stroh, who stayed at Grand Solmar Land’s End, donated sets and sets of scholar utensils for these kids who work hard for their future. Thank you Ms. Stroh!

.

Feb 22 | Together we are stronger!

The unconditional support of our Solmar Family helps us reach more causes. This time, our colleagues Cristina, Julio Lopez, Kris Schneider and Sheryl Gardne from the Vacation Club loaded a van with all kinds of groceries for Puerta del Cielo Meal Center. That day, the children had a rich, delicious chicken soup with vegetables for lunch.

.

Feb 24 | New sandals!

The always helping friends from Ayudanos a Ayudar made a donation of dozens of sandals for the Los Cabos communities supported by Solmar Foundation. They look incredible, don’t you think?

Coming soon – Solmar Foundation’s debut in TV!
